About This Journey

Overview

Chilika stretches over 1,100 sq km — Asia's largest brackish water lagoon and one of the world's most important Ramsar Wetlands. Every winter, over a million migratory birds arrive from Siberia, Mongolia, and Central Asia.

The Irrawaddy dolphins of Chilika are globally rare — fewer than 3,000 survive worldwide. A dawn boat ride towards Satpada offers almost guaranteed sightings of these gentle, round-nosed dolphins surfacing in morning gold.
